Based on this same principle, the Bathyscaphic Tower, an invention of Galeazzi’s, made history in 1932 when, aboard the Artiglio, it enabled the location and recovery of the cargo from the wreck of the ocean liner SS Egypt, lying at a depth of approximately 130 metres in the English Channel (United Kingdom). The precious cargo, consisting of gold bars, would be worth an estimated $500 million today.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eAn undertaking considered impossible at the time, the recovery made international headlines and earned Galeazzi the nickname \u003cstrong\u003e“the Wizard of the Deep.”\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eRoberto Galeazzi died in 1956. His legacy was taken up and kept alive by his son, Roberto Galeazzi junior.
